About letters of recommendation

Letters of recommendation lets you add each teacher or mentor as a recommender, send a formal request, and watch the status update from pending to submitted. You can also view a list of universities that require letters, drawn from 929 recorded institutions, so you know exactly where each letter is needed.

The feature sits beside Essays and Activities list in the Write category, and it connects with Application tracker so you can see recommendation deadlines next to each university's overall deadline. Counsellors can also view the status during Counselling sessions to help you stay on schedule.

What it does

  • Add recommenders

Enter each teacher's name, email, and relationship so you can send a request directly from the platform.

  • Send and track requests

Dispatch a request to each recommender and see real-time status: pending, in progress, or submitted.

  • View university requirements

Check which of 929 universities require recommendation letters and how many each one expects.

  • Link letters to applications

Associate each letter with specific universities in Application tracker so deadlines stay aligned.

  • Receive reminders

Get notified when a recommender hasn't responded as the deadline approaches.

How it works

  1. Add a recommender

Enter the teacher's details and choose which universities the letter should support.

  2. Send the request

The platform emails the teacher a secure link to upload the letter or confirm completion.

  3. Monitor progress

Watch the status column update as the teacher opens, writes, and submits the letter.

  4. Confirm submission

When the status shows submitted, the letter is marked ready for each linked application.

Who it is for

  • High school seniors

Students applying to undergraduate programs who need multiple teacher letters.

  • Transfer applicants

College students seeking recommendations from professors for transfer applications.

  • Parents assisting with organisation

Parents who help track which teachers have been asked and which letters are still pending.

  • Counsellors monitoring progress

Counsellors who use Counselling sessions to review recommendation status and follow up.

What you gain

  • Centralised request management

All recommendation requests and statuses live in one dashboard, separate from email threads.

  • Clear deadline visibility

Recommendation deadlines appear alongside each university's application deadline in Application tracker.

  • Reduced follow-up effort

Automated reminders mean less manual chasing of teachers as deadlines near.

  • Requirement awareness

Know exactly which universities need letters and how many, so nothing is missed.

Questions

Can I see the actual letter content?

No. The feature tracks only the request and submission status; the letter itself remains confidential between the teacher and the university.

What if a teacher doesn't respond?

You can resend the request or add an alternative recommender. The status stays pending until the teacher submits.

How many universities can I link to one letter?

You can associate a single recommender's letter with as many universities as needed; each university's requirement is checked against the 929 recorded institutions.

Does this submit letters to universities automatically?

No. The feature only helps you request and track letters. Submission to each university follows that university's own process.
