Attendance
Records who joined, when, and for how long, without anyone ticking a register.
The live room reports every join and leave as it happens, so attendance is exact minutes rather than a guess, for students and tutors alike.
Step by step
From “joined the room” to “minutes on record”
Someone joins
- 1
The moment a student or tutor enters the live room, the platform opens an attendance record with the exact join time.
Someone leaves
- 2
When they leave, the record is closed and the minutes spent in the room are added to their total.
A dropped connection
- 3
If someone drops and comes back, the return starts a new stretch. The time between is not counted, and the stretches add up to one total.
The tutor is told who has gone quiet
- 4
If someone has been absent for five minutes, the tutor sees an away toast with Ping and Dismiss, and an away badge appears next to the name.
- 5
Ping sends that person a private nudge.
Class ends
- 6
When the room closes, any stretch still open is closed at that moment, so nobody is left “still in class” forever.
- 7
The final minutes feed the class record, the parent view and tutor pay.
How it works
A register that fills itself in
The same event never counts twice
Every join and leave from the room is stored under its own event ID. If a message is delivered again, or arrives out of order, it is ignored or replayed in time order, so minutes are never double-counted.
Tutors can’t dodge attendance
Who counts as the tutor is decided on the server, from the account and the class’s assigned tutor, not from anything the browser claims. Editing your own role in the room doesn’t change how your time is recorded.
One person, many devices
Joined on a laptop and a phone at the same time? Overlapping time is merged into one, so each person is counted once, not twice.
Why it matters
Where the minutes show up
The class record
Whether each enrolled student attended, and for how many minutes.
Tutor pay
Worked out from the minutes the tutor was actually in the room.
The parent portal
Parents can see how their child’s attendance is going.
