LiveKit live tutoring
A real video and audio classroom for 1:1 and group lessons, with no extra app to install.
Join from your browser, check your camera and mic first, then teach and learn face to face with chat, hand-raising, screen sharing and the whiteboard right in the room.
Step by step
From “join class” to “see you next week”
Check before you join
- 1
Before you enter, a pre-join screen shows your camera and mic so you can pick the right devices and see how you look.
- 2
It names the class you are joining and says “This class may be recorded”.
Walk into the room
- 3
Everyone appears as a tile with a name tag and mic indicator. With the camera off you see a monogram avatar instead.
- 4
If you are the first one in, a “Waiting for others to join…” message keeps you company.
See what matters
- 5
Switch between an equal grid and a speaker view that follows whoever is talking.
- 6
A shared screen takes over the stage. The tutor can spotlight one person for the whole class, and anyone can pin a tile for themselves.
Talk, chat and raise a hand
- 7
Chat to Everyone or to Admin only, send quick emoji reactions, and raise your hand to be called on.
- 8
The tutor sees raised hands in order, with who went up first at the top.
Wrap up
- 9
When the lesson is done, the tutor presses End class and confirms. Everyone sees a clean “This class has ended” screen.
- 10
Before leaving, the tutor can save the recap, which keeps the transcript and whiteboard with the class.
How it works
A classroom built for teaching, not just calling
The tutor keeps the room in order
The tutor can mute everyone at once or mute a single student, and can remove someone who should not be there. A tutor or admin cannot be removed by anyone else, so the class always has someone in charge.
One key does it
Press M for your mic, V for your camera, H to raise a hand, C for chat and G to flip between grid and speaker view. Press ? any time to see the full list.
A shaky connection is not a surprise
If your own connection turns poor, a quiet banner says “Your connection is unstable” so you know why things lag. If the link drops, a reconnecting banner appears and the room picks up again by itself. Background blur is one tap away for a tidier video.
Everyone can see when it’s recording
A pulsing REC badge shows for every participant while the class is being recorded, not just the tutor. The pre-join screen also tells you up front, so nobody is ever recorded by surprise.
Made for every screen
On a phone
The side panel opens over the class as a sheet
- Controls stay easy to tap
- Fullscreen where the device allows it
With a keyboard
Shortcuts and clear focus outlines
- Dialogs trap focus and close with Escape
- Icon buttons carry labels for screen readers
Without a camera
A monogram avatar stands in for your video
- Mic and speaking indicators still show
